Lucky us. Ellen DeGeneres is hosting the upcoming live telecast of the Oscars this Sunday. Hollywood is wise to continue the trend of having smart, funny women host award shows. With Tina and Amy already brilliantly holding down the Golden Globes tent pole of awards season, Ellen is a fabulous choice to wrap things up by hosting the Oscars. Is she up for the ambitious gig? She seems confident and ready in recent interviews, and as a bonus she looks incredibly hot in a swank tux on the massive billboard that advertises the event. It's safe to say she'll shine in the role, for the following five reasons and more.

Ellen hosted a great show in 2007, so we can go into this year's telecast with confidence that Oscar hosting is a good fit for Ellen.
Ellen's not Seth MacFarlane.
Last year was miserable with MacFarlane at the mic. Remember "we saw your boobs?" Sorry to bring up the misogynistic madness of last year, but we must never forget so that we don't put ourselves through MacFarlane again. Fortunately Seth won't be back for a repeat performance, and Ellen is the perfect palate cleanser following MacFarlane's cringe-inducing year.
Ellen is charming.
Even diehards like me have to admit the event can be a grueling marathon. Everything else aside, Ellen is impossibly charming. Her tone is not unlike the puppies she loves so much: a little goofy, entirely endearing, lots of fun. The woman gets people dancing every day. I mean, she was Dory! Ellen's personable charisma might even help us make it through the dark passage of those inevitably slow-moving middle segments.
Ellen is out.
Ellen's impact on LGBT acceptance is massive. She changed the game in media, serves as a beacon for countless families and individuals, and her community of viewers models the ease of open and affirming diversity. Her career paid a huge price at the time, as Robin Roberts mentions in this interview, making Ellen's ultimate triumph all the more heartening. With LGBT discrimination in the news on on state legislature floors as of late, I'm really happy for an out lesbian to hold the spotlight that follows the Academy Awards host.
Ellen is every celebrity's BFF.
Only Jimmy Fallon can compete with Ellen's rapport with stars of all kinds, and she seems to bring out the best in them. She has promised to be in the audience interacting with attendees a lot, which is super fun and gives us extra opportunities to see who is sitting with whom and to spot our personal celebrity besties, pretend husbands and fantasy (cough Sandra Bullock cough) wives.
Clearly, I'm a big fan and I'm looking forward to Ellen as host, as well as P!nk's performance and the glam roster of presenters and nominees. It was a great year for movies and we have a lot to celebrate. I'm going to download the app for backstage livestreams, get my Twitter list in order, and dial in for the fun with Ellen Sunday night. What do you think? Will Ellen bring you to the show?
