There are so many amazing women out there doing their thing in this world, but often time we are intimidated to ask them just how they got where they were going! I know as I flip through the pages of my "CRAVE Austin: the ultimate guide to women-owned businesses in Austin", I wondered what their personal stories were, how they came up with their vision and made it happen, and what they learned along the way? Are they like me, I wondered? And right after I asked myself the question, I had a great idea, why not ask them myself, and share their personal experiences with you! So I thought, what do I have to loose, I opened up the CRAVE and started researching the internet to find inspirational women and business owners to feature on hersocialnetwork! And, this is where I will begin introducing you to women who inspire us, empower us, and want to share with us their journey! I hope in telling their story that their journey will inspire you and help you in your quest in finding your dreams and passions in life, and discovering what this life has in store for you!
The first amazing woman I would like to introduce to HER is Rochelle Rae, the owner and creator of Rae Cosmetics!
Rae Cosmetics, is hands down the best long-lasting, heat and humidity resistant, cruelty-free make up in the beauty industry! The thought and ingenuity that went into creating each product shows both in the quality, feel, texture, and performance of this line! The unique combination of minerals, antioxidants, sunscreen, and moisturizer is what makes this product last yet sit lightly on your skin, while making it look and feel amazing!
That is what has made Rae Cosmetics all the rage and the "go-to" product in the beauty industry for brides, salons, dermatologists, skin care specialists, celebrities, and the public.
But, as impressive as the make-up line is, the person behind it all will blow you away! Rochelle Rae is the overall package when it comes to a woman entrepreneur. She is smart, funny, caring, a hard working woman who cares about how her product is made, how it is tested, and her best attribute of all is that in the midst of her success, she has not forgotten who she is and how she got there! Here's the story behind her success.
Thirteen years ago, Rochelle started off just like any of us do, at the beginning. Rochelle passion is art! She found that her passion in life was to create beauty. She loved to create beautiful things through paints, sculpture, graphic design, and make-up. While working in the make-up industry in L.A. she found a love for being a make-up artist and the impact it had on a woman and the way it made her clients feel when she had finished making them look beautiful. And that's what brought this particular canvas full circle for her, and fueled her passion for the make-up industry.
She would move to Austin in this time, and continue her career as a make-up artist, only to find that the techniques she had loved using to create her looks in L.A. weren't working because of the climate and humidity. In fact, it was just frustrating to try to make a bride look her best, to only see that within minutes of finishing her face, that the make-up would start to smear, cake-up, and melt away. And that frustration became the spark and the driving force to create a product to fix this problem. It began with playing around with different moisturizers and products, until finally one day Rochelle had figured out the winning combination! Not only had she made a long lasting make-up product, but she had done it without making it heavy, sit in the fine lines on your face, and be beneficial to your skin! Her next step at this point, was figuring out how to produce and create the make-up line she had created!
Like all of us, beginning a business is costly, actually producing a make-up line using formulators and packaging, a fortune! And she didn't have a fortune to make all the products that she had come up with, she had to think about what she would launch first. Ultimately, figuring out how to financially fund this was a major concern. So what did she do? A lot of people at this point would have become discouraged, possibly even quit, but not Rochelle. She took a step back, looked at what she had come up with, and decided to start off with launching her favorite product first, her climate control mineral tint!
It was the base to her line and the product that ultimately made her name in the beauty industry! She knew that she could start with just that, produce it, and knew it was going to take a lot of work for her to make this happen! But this woman is not afraid to work hard to get where she is going! So while her new product launched, Rochelle rolled her sleeves up and made her dream possible by working night and day: she was a graphics and web designer by day, bartender by night, and make-up inventor/artist full time! I asked how she kept up with with the work required in the beginning stages and she said, "It takes work to get where you are going! I was exhausted but happy because I knew it would all be worth the work in the end. That's what fueled me at the end of the day, which I didn't see for awhile!" And she was right! Now Rae Cosmetics offers a full line of cosmetic products and make-up tools, and has become known as one of the best make-up lines in the industry! http://www.raecosmetics.com/
And the quality about Rochelle that makes her such a stand out, isn't just her work ethic, but her desire to inspire other women out there who are wanting to go after a "big" dream. Before we were finished, she told me that there was something she wanted to share with me because I too was at the beginning of my business venture, and she wanted to pass on something that she learned from her own mistakes along the way. She got a big smile and said, "Don't be afraid to ask questions! Don't have the impression that successful business owners want to see you make the same mistakes they had to, to be successful. They don't! In fact, they love to mentor you and give advice and tips!" She also told me that in her industry and in general that there are going to be a lot of competitors, critics, and noise about what you are doing! She told me, here's a quote I live by that inspired me to keep going and got me to where I am today:
"It is not the critic who counts....
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena...
if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly." -Theodore Roosevelt
When she was finished she said, "Call me anytime!" and I thought to myself, products are just products, they can be amazing, but what makes this product shine is Rochelle. And as I got in my car I was so grateful that I had worked up the courage to contact these inspirational women like Rochelle to share their stories because of all the wisdom I could share with other women and learn myself along the way!
