Why I write on beauty

When you visit my blog The Traditional Beauty you are likely to see some pretty images of my vanity table, my pearls and recent finds at the beauty counter. Sharing my love of beauty is almost an irresistible notion for me and for as long as I can remember beauty has been a way for me to connect to a feeling of wholeness within myself.

What you can't see within those images is that I am writing on beauty because I fully and wholeheartedly believe it to be a powerful tool of self actualization for all women. While women often give to others in spades many of us are in desperate need of nurturing ourselves. Beauty gives back to us when nothing else does.

I have always thought the term "she let herself go" was painfully short sighted. Why? Simply-most women don't just give up on their pretty. No. There is a story there-something she has come through and perhaps she is battle weary. For many women, it's automatic to nurture others yet so difficult to do the same for one self.

Maybe, this topic is not discussed in such a frank manner. I know. It does not sound stylish or chic to paint the reality so starkly without some cliché phrases and words. It's even a little boring. Yet, she does not need another hip plan or dramatic makeover she will never manage to maintain. What she needs is to honor the beauty that already lies within her and is just waiting to emerge.

I believe there are key elements that can help bring all women into their own wholeness and beauty. I write a lot on wholeness in my book Becoming: The Essential Guide for the Traditional Beauty. Beauty comes from within and that when we as women are approaching our lives from a state of completeness that is reflected as the ultimate beauty.

The opposite is also true. When as women we are drained, off balance and lacking in our basic self-care it is then reflected outward and back to us with negative energies. Therefore, we are either creating more beauty in our lives or repelling the very state of wholeness we yearn for.
