Red Carpet Beauty Trend: Berry Lips

Did anyone see how flawless Amber Riley’s makeup was on the red carpet at the SAG awards? Um, I did! Amber is one of my favorite celebrities to watch because her style and makeup are always on point. Now, I would be lying if I didn’t say my admiration for Amber is a little jaded because she has a beautiful deep brown complexion that I can relate to.

Amber’s makeup is always colorful, on-trend, and sophisticated. When I saw her strike a pose on the SAG awards red carpet I noticed that she was donning a bold berry lip. Berry lips are ultra-flattering on just about every complexion. Other celebrities like Busy Philipps and Anne Hathaway also wore berry colored lips to the SAG awards.

Because I like to keep it real, I can be honest and say that I am sometimes influenced by celebrity style and beauty. Since Amber, Busy, and Anne are a few of my favorite actresses, I figured why not try the berry lip look myself. When it comes to bold-colored lips, I like the color to last me at least 8 hours with very minimal retouching.

Check out the steps I took to achieve my berry lip:

  • I scrubbed my lips with warm water and my toothbrush. It’s a little trick I learned from none other than a celebrity makeup artist.
  • I then moisturized them with a lip balm.
  • Since my lips are naturally dark (and no I don’t smoke) I used a lip liner pencil in a wine color so it would show up well on my skin. I filled in my bottom and top lip completely with the pencil.
  • Then I used a berry lipstick with blue undertones on top of the line because those seem to flatter my complexion the best.

Here’s what my berry lip looked like and let me know what you think.
