Picking out a dress for a special party can seem daunting. There are an overwhelming amount of options in the stores and online and it seems each year there are more and more sequins to choose from. The key to picking out that perfect dress is selecting the right one for your body type. There have been plenty of occasions when I've purchased a dress because it was trendy or I simply loved the fabric but later discovered it just wasn't right for my body. If you follow your instinct and this easy guide, you'll be able to find a dress you feel beautiful and confident in for this party and for years to come.BODY TYPE: HOURGLASS
Girls with curves (in all the right places!) should show them off! Pick a dress that is slim fitting and accents your waistline with either embellished trim or a simple belt. You can also add your own coordinating belt. Stay away from pleats near your hips and plunging necklines and instead opt for a conservative look. Wearing a dress that hits right below your knees will accent your figure the best.
Petite ladies should show off their tiny frame -- many women would love to be able to wear tight dresses, so you should embrace this ability! I always try to follow the simple rule of showing off only one body part. If it's your legs (shown here), then keep your top covered up. This is a good rule of thumb for petites specifically, who should minimize the amount of fabric on their small frame.
Whether you've worked hard for your athletic build, or it's simply come naturally --- you shouldn't feel shy about showing off your legs and arms! Choose a simple silhouette like a shift, or one-shoulder shift, and have fun with the print or fabric.
Sequin Front Shift Dress, $109BODY TYPE: LARGE BUST
If you have a large bust, the easiest way to bring attention to another part of your body is to cover up and accent! Opt for a full coverage neckline and bring the focus to your waist with pretty pleats and an embellished accent like the bow shown here.
Ponte Bow Dress, $89BODY TYPE: HEAVY MID-SECTION
If you're not comfortable showing off your mid-section, you can hide it discreetly. Opt for a dress that is tighter up top and looser on the bottom half, like the baby-doll style seen here. This silhouette will show off your shoulders and chest, and define a waistline for you without bringing attention to your middle section.
