Own Your Beauty is a groundbreaking, year-long movement bringing women together to change the conversation about what beauty means. Our mission: to encourage and remind grown women that it is never too late to learn to love one's self and influence the lives of those around us - our mothers, friends, children, neighbors. We can shift our minds and hearts and change the path we follow in the pursuit of authentic beauty.
In our current world of arty photo angles and red-hot Twitter avatars, it's increasingly difficult to find images of real women looking ... real. Maybe it's our Photoshop-happy media culture. Maybe it's our fear of showing what we view as our flaws. Maybe it's that we, as women -- wives, partners, mothers, friends, photographers -- are so often behind the camera instead of in front of it. But for us, as we attempt to illustrate the raw and gripping posts of our Own Your Beauty initiative, it's ... frustrating. Where are all the photos of real women?
We know they're out there, buried in your Flickr streams, stored on your hard drives and cell phones. And we want to highlight them as part of BlogHer.com's Own Your Beauty. In order to show off our community in all its authentic marvel, we need your photographs.
We've created the BlogHer Own Your Beauty Flickr group, and we invite you and all of your family and friends -- bloggers or nonbloggers -- to upload your favorite photos in which you see in yourself ... beauty.
Maybe you like the way the light hits your hair.

Maybe it was just a really, really great moment in your life captured on film.
We want to use them. We want to see them.
By uploading your photos to this group, you are giving us permission to use them as part of BlogHer's Own Your Beauty initiative. We will attribute them to your Flickr account, unless you leave another location (like your blog) in the description of the photo. There is no end date on this group, so please upload away throughout 2010 and 2011. We can't wait to see you.
