For the first time (after living in New York for 2.5 years), I was invited to a NYFW show! I was filled with excitement when I got my first invitation a couple months ago. Irene Myers, who runs her own PR firm, made sure I had the hook up early on and forwarded my information along to Natasha Huang, Founder of NH Media. Natasha sent me an exclusive invite to the Rolando Santana Spring 2011 Runway Show on Thursday, September 16th, 6pm at Griffin in the meatpacking district.

The Runway Show began in a mellow, spring like tone, inviting us to remember the sounds and colors of Spring and the aura the season brings. The dresses, Rolando’s specialty, were in different shades of whites and beiges,

light grays,

and a few featured animal prints and textures.

The simplicity of the dresses is what made them so unique and Spring ready. All the models wore their hair in high pony tails as they walked gracefully down the runway. They wore the “no makeup look” with nude lips, which will be a trendy look for next Spring.

Take a look at this beautiful dress (below) in a dark brown hue, detailed in pleats. This dress can be worn with sandals or pumps and would be perfect for an evening event. The color is subtle and screams modern day sophistication meets couture.

Some of the models also wore bold statement jewelry with the dresses. This adds a perfect ambiance and dimension to the already textured dress. Rolando definitely has a sense of style and knows how a woman likes to dress.

Speaking of Rolando Santana- the man is incredible. Rolando was born in Mexico and was raised by his mother, who loved designing as well. She ran her own dressmaking business in her home. Santana notes on his website that his mom served as a great  inspiration for him and his love for fashion.

Some guest appearances included Alex McCord (The Real Housewives of New York) and Model Jessica White!

3 things I learned from Rolando’s Spring Show:
1. Simple is always better
2. Big necklaces make an incredible statement with dresses
3. Fashion shows are only 10 min long but there’s so much work involved pre-show!

Thank you Irene and Natasha for inviting me to my first NYFW show and Congrats to Rolando for putting together a spectatular show!

I will never forget this day!

Every model in the show wore Power Balance wristbands
