New York Fashion Week: Isaac Mizrahi Spring/Summer 2010

Today I got the opportunity to observe the Isaac Mizrahi collection for Spring/Summer 2010 in the main Tent of Bryant Park!

I was the guest of Moxsie.com, and got to view the show in the American Express Sky Box, which was decorated by Jonathan Adler and hosted by Bergdorf Goodman. In fact, the Isaac Mizrahi spring/summer collection is going to be offered exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman.

The runway featured several staircases (fitting, since the collection was titled "Astaire Case"), a water feature that actually rained on a model as a set lackey with an umbrella ushered her across but managed to completely miss her with any coverage, and a golf cart to kick off the final walk. The music was provided by a live band, The Bad Plus, and was the only NYFW show to actually feature live music.

There were sleek party dresses, loose trousers with blazers and corset tops, a stunning silver metallic dress with tuxedo lapels, floofs and poofs and rosettes, and my favorite, BOATER HATS. I am all for bringing back spring hats. The shoes looked like a hybrid between a bootie, a sandal, and saddle shoes, so altogether awesome and intriguing.

The colors were vivid -- bright acid yellows paired with neutrals like grey and deep olive, hot pink lips on every model, metallics and sequins of every color from silver to rippling pink and green, and a sparkling magenta princess-seam dress.

I managed to take a brief video of the ending walk -- it started when they drove out a model in a golf cart, which you can see on the left hand side of the video.

Also of note: Kathy Griffin sitting in the front row -- you'll see her sitting next to Robert Verdi, who's in yellow. And, a few seconds before the end, look for a certain famous bobbed fashion editor to dash out of the tents...

So what would I incorporate from the Isaac show into my spring wardrobe? I'm dying over the silver tuxedo dress, loving the summer hat, and thinking about playing with bright-versus-neutral colors -- pairing brights with my khakis and greys, for example. It's going to be a fun spring!
