The story matters.
Every day I hear the stories of cancer patients and families who want to share what they've experienced, hoping it will help someone else. Those stories often echo out and come back to me –- through families who found out about proton therapy from a friend, from someone online … from someone's story.
The heartbreak of childhood cancer is very real, but so is the hope. Especially when you hear stories like that of Denise Rager. The California mother of two sons, the eldest with epilepsy, began to feel concerned about her younger son Matthew's health. It turned out her mother's intuition was right and before she knew it, her family was in a fight to save Matthew's life. Now, Denise wants to share the story of her family's journey to give others hope and to let them know that they are not alone.
