If you’re like me, you have an idea for the perfect color or hairstyle. Then you go to a salon, have a long consultation and (sometimes) walk out looking good, but not exactly how you wanted your hair to look.Janine Jarmin at Hairroin Salon made my dream come true. Let me back up and give you more information first, okay.

I learned about Hairroin’s LA salon when I was the Senior Style & Beauty Editor at BettyConfidential. Janine, who was a finalist in Bravo’s Shear Genius, and clients include  Scarlett Johansson, Christina Applegate, Fergie and more, had contributed a lot of great articles for the site. They ranged from a “How to” create a hairstyle, to advice on hair care. Every time I got an article and photos from Janine, I’d pour over the photos, sighing at the way the LA salon looked. It looked so cool. The hairstyles Janine created for us looked cool (and easy to do), there was so much creativity. And yeah, when a hairstylist has a stellar reputation, you want to visit them and say, “Please make my hair incredible!” However, if the salon’s on the other side of the country, there’s not much you can do about that.

When I heard that Hairroin would be opening a branch in New York City, I did a happy dance. Yeah, I’m an adult, so what. After going to the press preview for the new store I was offered a chance to experience the salon myself.* They're located in the new Urban Outfitters flagship store in midtown Manhattan. The salon and store are located at 1333 Broadway, call them at (646) 794-5951.

Janine jarminMy consultation with Janine was relaxed and fun.  She's a petite dynamo, with a ready laugh, a great eye and has a warm and sunny disposition. Maybe it’s because Janine has worked on so many heads for TV, film, commercials, runway and photo shoots, or maybe it’s because Janine is the West Coast Spokesperson for Sebastian Professional and is a member of the national Sebastian Design team, she understood immediately what I wanted.  I needed to have my blonde made cooler (it was too yellow) and I wanted a few random highlights of color: pink and purple.

As you can see from the photos, Janine did that and more! She gave me a California Surfer Gal blonde—soft roots that are a darkish, but soft blonde, added the peek-a-boo color and voila!  My hair dreams came true.  All this precision work took around two hours max (I wasn’t clock watching). Here’s the thing, I wasn’t trapped in a chair for hours and hours. If you’re a blonde like I am, you know that going blonde means sitting in a chair for three hours or more. Not this time. And if you go blonde, like I have done, you know that if the color’s rushed, there’s a big chance of damage and breakage. Not this time.

Hairroin new york city blonde and highlightsMy hair is soft, manageable, shiny, healthy, and the color is beyond amazing. This is the first time in my life when I’ve got my color done and have people on the street stop to admire it. I can’t stop talking about how wonderful the experience was for me.

*The PR firm took care of the cost of my visit. However, if it sucked, I wouldn't write about. IT'S AMAZING AND I LOVE MY COLOR.
