Dress Like a Duchess at Every Size & Budget

The royal visit is upon us. It was almost too much for me to wait for 5 p.m. tonight when I could click on Polyvore and start hunting for Kate's clothes. The young duchess is starting to make quite a name for herself, isn't she? For the departure from Heathrow in the UK, Duchess Kate went beyond what looked good and sent a few messages of awareness with her design choices. She paired a Roland Mouret dress, french designer, with a Smythe blazer, a Canadian line.

Think this is a simple sheath dress? Try again.

This is a fabulous dress that you could go from work to a cocktail party with. Pairing with a blazer makes it professional enough for the office.

She also wore Manolo Blahniks and sported a Mulberry bag, but What Kate Wore has the deets on that.

How can you as a budget-concious wannabe duchess get this look? There are two ways, my friends.

A $384 Ralph Lauren Black Label dress is still a lot for most people, so here's an even more affordable version.

Kate's Look for Less: Departing Heathrow

Today a friend from DC asked me to find a way to do this look for larger sizes...and on a budget. Why not? This is an outfit that translates well on all figures. It's monochromatic and sheath dresses are very flattering. However, to be flattering, they need to fit right. These are dresses where it's better to go up a size and make sure you have the right foundation garments. Actually, that's advice that women at any size should follow. You can be a size four and still cram your body into too tight clothes.

This navy sheath from Macy's is currently a steal at $37.50. This is a classic dress that you can wear year-round. The blazer is also on sale for $45.
