A Guide to the Best Victoria’s Secret Women’s Body Mists

By Yehudah Posnick

"Victoria’s Secret" was a groundbreaker in the area of lingerie and women’s apparel when they were launched in 1977. Trying to capitalize on the name and the seductive nature of their products, they then opened a line of fragrances in 1992. You can get their fragrances in spray, lotion, and roll-on versions--but one of their most popular products are their distinctive “body mists” (also called “body sprays” or “splashes”). A body mist is a delicate fragrance, with the lowest percentage of aromatics--usually an essential oil or fruit essence--and thus the highest percentages of water and alcohol. To have an idea of what a body mist is, let’s see a comparison of the various types of fragrances:

  • Body Mist: 1.5% - 3% aromatics
  • Fine Fragrance Mist: 3% - 7% aromatics
  • Eau de Cologne (EdC): Around 5% aromatics
  • Eau de Toilette (EdT): Around 10% aromatics
  • Eau de Parfum (EdP): Around 15% aromatics
  • Perfume: 20% aromatics and higher

We’ve composed this buyer’s guide to help you make the right decision when selecting from among Victoria Secret’s collection of body mists. It'll help you:Since body mists have a high percentage of alcohol, which tends to dry the skin, they will also contain a moisturizer, to balance out the effect of the alcohol. It’s not uncommon to see aloe vera added to body mists, just for this purpose.

Types of Victoria's Secret Womens Body Mists

Most perfumes are a combination of scents. We can classify body mists by their main accord of scents:

  • Fruity--An example would be Victoria Secret’s “Pure Seduction” Body Mist. It is described as fruity and sweet, like a fruit roll-up. Its major scents are red plum and freesia.

  • Citrus--These employ citrus fruits for their essence. An example would be “Sweet and Flirty”, which contains scents of sugar berry and pink grapefruit.

  • Woody--An example would be the scent “Amber Romance”, which is reminiscent of sandalwood, but also uses aloe vera as a moisturizer and chamomile.

  • Sweet/Spicy--Victoria's Secret makes "Sugar & Spice Seduction", containing cinnamon, brown sugar, and orange scents.

One of the advantages of body mists is that, owing to their gentle scent, they can easily be combined with other fragrances, according to your preference. So you’ll find body mists such as “Bombshell”, which combines purple passionfruit, peony, and vanilla orchid.

What Reviewers Say

  • When to apply body mist: Body mists are more delicate than perfumes, and the fragrance dissipates relatively quickly. But that doesn’t mean that all body mists have the same potency. If you expect to spend a day in an office, you probably would prefer a gentler body mist, so that your co-workers won’t find the scent obtrusive. On the other hand, if you will be spending a day outdoors, you can afford using a body mist that is more pungent. It’s also recommended to apply a body mist after a bath or shower, to give you a delicate scent.

  • How often to apply it: Since body mist has a high alcohol and water content, the scent dissipates quickly--in as little as 1 to 2 hours, in some cases. (Perfume, owing to its much greater concentration of aromatics, will last for 7-8 hours!) So it’s recommended to apply body mist several times over the course of the day. Since you’ll be applying it more than once a day, if you like a particular fragrance, it’s best to buy a larger size.

Important Features

  • Cost: Owing to their high water and alcohol content, body mists will be around ¼ the price of a perfume. You’ll see perfumes sold at $80 a bottle, while body mists will be $20 or less! But, of course, you will also have to apply body mist more often, since the fragrance dissipates more quickly than if you applied a perfume with the same fragrance.

  • Sizes: You can find Victoria’s Secret body mists in two major sizes. They usually sell their body mists in 8.4 fluid ounce bottles. There is also a travel size of 2.5 fluid ounces.

  • Where to apply it: A person’s body heat activates perfume, since it makes the alcohol and water to evaporate, leaving only the aromatics behind. The major pulse points where it is suggested to apply perfume are:

    • Behind the ear

    • On the throat region,

    • On the inside of the wrist, or elbow

    • Behind the knee.

But, since it costs less, you can be more liberal when applying body mist. It is recommended to apply body mist near the throat. It also can be applied onto the middle of the abdomen, or even on your clothes.

Top-Rated Brands

Victoria’s Secret is a manufacturer of women's clothing and beauty products. The company was founded in 1977 by Roy Raymond, which was inspired by Raymond's dissatisfaction with the standard of women's lingerie at the time. They make swimwear, sportswear lingerie, accessories, and fragrances for women.
