    Black+Decker MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum

    View Deal See Details

At $79.99, the Black + Decker BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum may seem expensive at first but definitely provided plenty of bang for its buck! With a lithium-ion battery for strong suction power and long battery life, its name comes from the pivoting action of the nozzle which allows for the vacuum to reach into small, difficult to reach areas. Besides the pivot, the vacuum also uses cyclonic action to physically lift and spin the dirt away from the carpet. It also has a 3 stage filtration system to help remove allergens and a large area for collecting the dirt so that it is longer between emptying. It weighs only 3.8 pounds, so it is lightweight and easy to move around the house for spot cleaning.

    • Lithium-ion rechargeable battery
    • Triple filter system
    • Lightweight--only 3.8 pounds
    • Wide mouth for larger debris
    • Somewhat expensive for a hand vac
    • Slightly noisy at 94.4 decibels
    • Doesn't pick up all of pet hair

Shark Navigator Freestyle Cordless Stick Vacuum

    View Deal See Details

Coming in at under $100 MP, the Shark Navigator Freestyle Cordless Stick Vacuum (SV1106) is a versatile, reasonably-priced wireless stick vacuum. That said, it is the heaviest of the two stick vacuums in the top five by about 2 pounds, weighing in at 7.5 pounds total, which may make a difference to some people. It offers two settings to allow you to clean both hardwood and carpet and is easy to switch between them. Also, according to most users and different from many wireless vacuums, you can leave it plugged in and charging as long as you want without ruining the battery! The Shark Navigator is definitely one of the best “entry level” wireless stick vacuums on the market and worth giving a shot if you want to spend under $100. According to most users, it offers great suction power and has a long battery life, despite not having a lithium-ion battery. Shark Navigator Freestyle extended product review.

    • Top rated for pet hair pickup
    • Offers two settings - one for hardwood and one for carpet
    • Large “dust cup” means longer vacuuming without emptying
    • Advanced swivel steering for maneuverability
    • On the heavier side at 7.5 pounds
    • Uses 10.8V batteries instead of the longer lasting lithium ion
    • Not as useful for larger objects like Cheerios

It comes with two attachments - the crevice tool and brush - for a variety of surface needs (the brush is particularly good for upholstery). It’s also incredibly easy to use and store, with a quick charging base and accessory storage tool. Black + Decker CHV1410L extended product review.

Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

    View Deal

The Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Cat. No. BH50010) requires no power cord and no dirt bag that has to be replaced. The dirt collects in a transparent cup, so you know when the cup is full and must be emptied out. Here are some notable features:

    • Small and lightweight: It's a slim stick upright and weighs only 7.3 pounds, which makes it easy to store away in a small closet. It is small enough to carry it up the stairs to vacuum carpeted stairs.
    • Adjust from carpet to hard-floors: There is a button on the stick to adjust from carpet to hard floors--the button raises the brushroll so as not to scratch the hardfloor.
    • Battery indicator: You recharge the Hoover Linx’s battery in a separate recharger, and it takes around three hours to recharge completely. While in use, there is an indicator light to tell you how much power you have left: over 75%, 50%, or under 25%.

Bottom Line
At $79.99, the Black + Decker BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum may seem expensive at first but definitely provided plenty of bang for its buck
The fact that the vacuum is cordless helps you do vacuuming jobs without having to look for a power outlet. This might be convenient in an RV, or if you want to pick up a dry spill as soon as it occurs.
The Black & Decker 16 V Cordless Hand Vac has been rated the #1 cordless hand vac in a number of surveys, owing to its power suction, compact size, versatility and durability.
The entire vacuum weighs 5.8 pounds, so it’s not a problem to carry it up a flight of stairs and vacuum each stair separately.

If you have kids or pets, you probably know how unpredictable they can be. They can spill or knock something over in a number of different places—and you might not be able to get a full-sized vacuum cleaner or sweeper into a tight area or corner. So, a cordless vacuum can help you immensely. You won't be able to vacuum the whole house with it, but it can conveniently clean up those occasional spills.

Generally speaking, a “cordless vacuum cleaner” is exactly that: a vacuum cleaner without a cord that you end up running over or dragging behind you while trying to clean your bedroom or living room.

Also, if you have a pet that sheds a lot of hair, you can look over our reviews of the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair.

What are the different types of cordless vacuums?

There are a few different types of cordless vacuum cleaners out there, but the top cordless vacuum cleaners normally fall into one of two categories. They are:

  • Cordless handheld: Cordless handhelds are normally thought of as the back-up or spot cleaning vacuum, as they lack the surface area of a more traditional vacuum cleaner to do a full, over-all, deep carpet cleaning. They tend to have slightly higher power and suction than a traditional vacuum cleaner, however, just compacted into a smaller surface area.

  • Cordless stick: Cordless stick vacuums look a lot more like the type of vacuums we all grew up with! They generally offer multiple modes of cleaning for different surface areas - hardwood, different thicknesses of carpet, etc. They also generally tend to be more lightweight than a corded vacuum cleaner which makes them a lot easier for especially younger and elderly people to be able to operate.

How does a cordless vacuum get its power?

No matter the type of cordless vacuum you choose, they all run on some sort of battery pack. For the majority of vacuums, this is a lithium-ion battery but they have been made with other types (generally nickel based) batteries before as well. The general standard is lithium-ion due to the length of time they hold their charge and the amount of power you get out of them, combined with the relatively short amount of charging time. And you will have to “charge up” your vacuum between uses. Think of it as a cell phone - the batteries are very similar and the work essentially the exact same way! If you’re interested in more information, this article from Battery University explains why lithium-ion batteries are, in fact, the ideal!

What should I consider when I purchase a cordless vacuum?

  • What are you planning on using it for?: First and foremost, look at what you intend to use it for! Obviously, you’ll use a handheld versus a stick vacuum much differently. It’s good to take into account the surface area, the type of surface and the amount of power you’ll need in relation to your needs.

  • Budget: Make sure you decide what your budget is, in order to narrow down your search.

  • Weight: This may sound silly, but if the vacuum will be used mostly by a child or someone who is elderly or has other physical issues, the weight of the vacuum itself should absolutely be taken into account.

  • Attachments: Although optional, if you’re planning on using your cordless vacuum to clean under the fridge or between couch cushions, attachments are a must.

  • Reviews and ratings: Products with the most reviews and the highest star ratings tend to be the best on the market. There is something to be said about crowdsourcing your decision making! Read the reviews!

What are some of the top brands of cordless vacuum cleaners?

When looking for a new vacuum, it’s important to focus on the most reputable and well-known brands. Coincidentally, these are often the brands that offer the best value and warranties!

  • Black and Decker: One of the most trusted American made brands on the market with a nearly 100-year history. They currently produce the brands and subsidiaries DeWalt, Craftsman, and DustBuster, which are fairly well-known across the country and the world. Although they started out with a simple electric drill, they also have manufactured vacuums for many years.

  • Shark: One of the relatively newer brands on the market, Shark was created in Canada in 1995. They pride themselves on unique and affordable products for everyone, ranging from sewing machines to blenders, to vacuums and other products.

  • Dirt Devil: Also founded over 100 years ago, this Ohio-founded brand has always been at the forefront of creative vacuum designs. Well-known for their slogans like “Nothing escapes the power of the Dirt Devil” and “Let’s Go,” they have a great marketing team and an excellent reputation.

  • Eufy: This Chinese brand was formerly known as Anker and has provided quality vacuums (as well as robot vacuums) since 2011. They sell many types of consumer products and aren’t quite as well known in the US.
