Eclectic Fashion At The 2013 CFDAs
Nicole Richie and Hailee Steinfeld wore two drastically different — but equally as amazing — looks to the 2013 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards on Monday night.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards are like the Oscars for the fashion industry — and celebs turn out in their best gear for both events each year. The 2013 installment of the CFDAs was held Monday night in New York City, and celebs turned out to celebrate designers like Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne and Oscar de la Renta.
The standouts of the night? Nicole Richie and teen actress Hailee Steinfeld, though they were dressed in drastically different designs.
Mom of two Richie went for the gold — literally — in a sleek Marc Jacobs number with minimal makeup and bright lipstick. Steinfeld, on the other hand, looked age-appropriate in a print skirt and matching crop top.
The best part of Steinfeld's look was her bright orange lipstick, though. Well, it's not quite orange: It's persimmon, according to her makeup artist.
"Persimmon lips are fresher and more youthful than classic red, and they're the perfect way to get glam for summer because they're playful and not too formal," her makeup artist, Nick Barose, told Glamour. "We used Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Excentrique. Apply it directly from the tube, no liner, then clean around the edges with a lip brush and Q-Tip."
He put the same color on her cheeks for a vibrant pop.
"I used the same color powder blush but applied with a light hand so it didn't compete with the lips," he said.
On the other end of the spectrum, Girls star Jemima Kirke again showed off her offbeat style in a beach-worthy leotard and sheer cover-up — along with teal wedges. Not the look we would've gone for, but Kirke has the personality to pull it off.
