We're obsessed!

We have a total crush on Emmy Rossum's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!
Emmy Rossum with a side braid

Emmy Rossum is on a roll lately! Over the past few weeks, she's topped both our Celeb Hairstyle of the Week and Friday's Fashion Obsessions. This week, we're giving props to the Shameless actress for the super sweet braid she wore to a recent event.

Doesn't this look just make you want to smile? It's so youthful and fresh and absolutely on trend with the added bobby pins in the front. Want to steal them for yourself? Emmy opted for ban.do's Flash Bobbi Pins in Blush!

I turned to Nick Penna Jr., owner and lead stylist of SalonCapri, with locations in Boston, Dedham and Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, to get the breakdown on Emmy's look so you can recreate it yourself.

Get the look

Got long hair? If you're looking for a 'do that's a bit dressier than a simple pony but more casual than a high maintenance updo, Nick suggests Emmy’s pretty plait. Here's how you can steal her style:

  1. Start off by blow drying your hair.
  2. Next, gather hair to one side in a low ponytail, securing it close to the base of your neck with a clear elastic.
  3. Now it's time to start your braid! Create a braid incorporating hair from one section into the other until you run out of hair. Then secure with another clear elastic.
  4. Finally (here's the secret!), with a pair of scissors, carefully cut out the top elastic to give the braid a loose, casual look.

Quick tip

Want two days of great hair? If you have the time, nix the blow dry and let your braid air dry! Braiding clean, damp hair is a great way to get great next day natural curls without the heat. When you are ready to take the braid out, comb fingers through curls and follow with a shine boosting spray or serum such as Kerastase Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide Shine perfecting serum.
