Top trends you can do at home
Nicole Kidman at 2012 Emmy Awards

Emmy style

The Emmys are always fun to watch -- some look out for the stylish threads or mod makeup, but for me, it is all about the hair. Emmy tresses are always a hot indicator of trends to come for fall. From Hollywood darling Zooey Deschanel and her perfect bangs to va-va-voom star Christina Hendricks and her retro waves, these red carpet stand outs were the "mane" attraction.

Here are my top picks for award-winning hair -- and luckily they are all pretty simple to recreate at home!

Center parts

Worn by:

  • Julia Louis Dreyfus and Allison Williams with a sleek, low bun
  • Emilia Clarke with half pulled back
  • Jane Krakowski with a bouncy blow out
  • Nicole Kidman blown out super smooth and flat

To achieve at home:

  1. After applying a styling product, part the hair smack down the middle!
  2. For resistant hairlines, use a comb to hold the hair in the parted position while drying.
  3. Blow out using a round brush.
  4. Finish by using a curling iron or flat iron, depending on the desired look.

Thanks for the how-to's. I'm constantly on the look out for better and different hair styles. I tend to get stuck in a routine of either throwing it in a pony tail or just leaving it down and straight. I really like the side part with dramatic curls. Thanks!
