Lip perfection gel

Looking for the Lip & Lash Holy Grail?

The eyes may be the window to the soul, but perfect lips are the key to romance. Per-fekt Beauty, which is the second bestselling brand at Henri Bendel (according to founder Richard Anderson), has some new products lined up for summer that joyfully address both. See how they measure up.

Chapped lips and smudged lipsticks are no fun. Nor should they really be a concern in the 21st century (we have put a man on the moon, after all, so why are chapped lips such a big issue?).

Lip Perfection Gel

Per-fekt Beauty's Richard Anderson obviously loves his products. When speaking about the new Lip Perfection Gel ($60 for a set of three), he talks about why this gel is actually an alternative to the traditional lipstick, gloss and plumper. This is really a multitasking lip perfector that does brilliantly in the hydrating department.

You don't have to worry about whether or not the moisture will stay on your lips: It will. There's no sticky or tacky feeling because the blend contains hyaluronic microspheres for lip hydration and peptides to stimulate collagen production. In other words, this is a gel that will make you feel very grown up and young at the same time! There's also natural spearmint in the gel that acts as a terrific breath freshener.

There are several shades, too:

  • Fountain: Clear with no color, so you can use it as a base for lipsticks and lipglosses.
  • Vine: A sheer rich burgundy color that makes your lips look as though you've been sipping some wine!
  • Hollywood: This is your "see and be seen" starlet red.
  • Melrose: A beautiful and deep plum shade. This has a brownish tint and goes on quite startlingly on your lips.
  • Paramount: This is a sheer, cool pink and perfect for the summer sorbet evening.
  • Sunset: This is a natural and sheer apricot.

Our verdict? These are delightful alternatives to your traditional gloss and lipstick, and you can buy them individually at Per-fekt Beauty's site ($24). Plus, each gel has a cute flower design at the tip -- ready for application. Who can be bothered with lip brushes, right?

Lash Perfection GelLash Perfection Gel

The other new debut for the summer is not quite a mascara, but looks like a mascara. It's a Lash Perfection Gel ($30) which conditions, lengthens and separates the lashes in one sweep. It's silky smooth and really does work beautifully (think of it as a primer, mascara and conditioner for your peepers). Each Lash Perfection Gel has a multi-leveled coiled brush that fits well on the lash line.

The formulation, with olive-derived ester, rice bran, carnauba and candelilla waxes, marine plant glycogen and hyaluronic microspheres among others, makes this a winning mascara alternative.

I have definitely been on search for the perfect mascara! But at $30 a tube that is really steep! I'm sure it is a great product, but that is so unrealistic to spend for the average girl.

I have become obsessed with all things lips this year. I love that the bold came back but we have kept the sweet and soft shades too.
