Giada has officially partnered with Clairol Natural Instincts as their new celebrity spokeswoman! In an exclusive SheKnows interview, Giada dishes about her favorite beauty products, life as a busy mom and her transition from chef to beauty ambassador.
Even though she's known for her talents in the kitchen, Giada is the first to admit that she's a beauty girl at heart. "I don't fit the typical stereotype of the food world." In fact, when Giada first appeared on the Food Network, skeptics wrote in, bashing the TV station for hiring a model that was pretending to be a chef. But now that Giada has proven herself in the food world -- she has a list of accomplishments about a mile long -- she's equipped to move onto prettier projects.
Known for her signature wavy golden-brown locks, Giada has just signed on as the newest Clairol Natural Instincts hair color spokeswoman! But what made her finally want to make the leap from food to beauty?
"What attracted me to Clairol Natural Instincts was that we share a similar philosophy," Giada says. "It's all about balancing your life. Natural Instincts is healthy and won't break the bank, but it's indulgent at the same time, just like what I do in the kitchen."
Which is perfect, because Giada's middle name could be balance. Along with all of her many professional endeavors, she is also a wife and mother of a 4-year-old daughter. "If you're passionate you can do it all," Giada says. And she's definitely practicing what she preaches!
Because Giada loves grilling contestants so much as a judge on Food Network's Next Food Network Star, we thought we'd quiz her a bit on her beauty know-how.
Giada De Laurentiis: Sunscreen. I always make sure to protect my face. (Her younger brother Dino passed away from skin cancer at 29.)
GDL: Olive oil. I eat a lot of olive oil! It's great for the hair and skin. I like to be shiny and healthy.
GDL: I always carry a bag of almonds with me, because it's natural protein, and I can just reach in my bag and grab it. So it's interesting that the color I used to dye my hair is called toasted almond! It's a golden-brown color with highlights. This is the first time I've used a box dye. I'm shocked at how great it makes your hair look and feel.
GDL: All of the pots and pans I use on my show are fairly expensive. I found that people were trying to save up just to buy these things, but I just want people to feel comfortable. You want to give people products that work. With [Clairol Natural Instincts] it's something they can do at home but still feel glamorous. I want women to look in the mirror and say 'I feel so good about myself.'
GDL: I want them to think strong, empowering, fun and happy.
Giada, you've proven to embody all of those words, and we wish you the best! And girl, your hair is cookin'!
