A young starlet
The Lying Game’s Allie Gonino, sits down with us to chat about her beauty tips, must-have products and how she stays grounded in young Hollywood.
After the finale of the first season of The Lying Game, Gonino’s character, Laurel Mercer, left us on the edge of our seats and wanting much more. We couldn’t help but wonder what’s next for her. Fortunately for us, while the show is on hiatus, she had a few minutes to spare to dish on our favorite topics: Hollywood style and backstage secrets.
SheKnows: How do you continue to stay so refreshed both on and off the camera? Do you have a specific beauty routine?
Gonino: I don't know that I have it totally down. I guess it's a good thing that I at least look like I'm always refreshed! Haha... I'd say the biggest thing to maintaining a "refreshed" look is drinking lots of water. I don't drink coffee, alcohol or even tea very often because they are acid forming and can cause you to look dehydrated. I also moisturize at least twice a day, morning and night. At night, I use a cleanser and Clarisonic Mia to take my makeup off, which promotes circulation, then follow up with moisturizer or a toner. I like to mix olive oil and brown sugar for a great cheap facial scrub, and it's good to do that about twice a week.
SheKnows: What products are always in your handbag?
Gonino: Aveda hand lotion, a pair of hot sunglasses, either Marc by Marc Jacobs or Alexander McQueen, my iPod and I always keep some sort of lip balm and lipstick with me. I travel light, but I've got my essentials!
Allie's beauty picks
SheKnows: What are the three beauty products you can’t live without?
Gonino: I'm obsessed with Laura Mercier's Stardust. You just dust a light layer once your makeup is done on your forehead, tops of the cheeks and tip of the nose for a nice angelic glow. I also love Valerie of Beverly Hills Foreplay Mascara and NARS Laguna Bronzer.
SheKnows: What designers are you dying to wear on the red carpet?
Gonino: Oh man, I'm dying to wear something by Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Chloe, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Louboutin, L.A.M.B., Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney... too many to list!
SheKnows: Now onto Hollywood. Any actors you would love to work with someday?
Gonino: I really love Emma Stone. I just think she's a super sweet girl and would be really fun on set. I feel like it'd be super fun to do a comedy with her. A big fantasy is to work with Robert Deniro. He's a veteran to the business, and I know I could learn so much from him. Plus he's Italian like I am, so I think we'd click!
SheKnows: How do you stay so refined, sweet and successful in young Hollywood and not let the fame get to you in a negative way?
Gonino: Well, it's definitely hard. Because it’s part of my life, at times I feel like it's real, but I just have to remind myself my job is not who I am. Even though my career has been my life for what seems like forever, at the end of the day, I am just another girl in the world trying to navigate through life. My friends keep me grounded, so I'm really thankful for that.

SheKnows: Any upcoming projects after The Lying Game? What’s next for you?
Gonino: Well, hopefully we are getting picked up for season two so that will keep me busy this summer! Other than that, I feel that I'm very much in a transitional/coming of age period, so I'm trying to center myself a bit more. Music is still the number one priority for me. I'm planning to record and release an EP with The Good Mad [my band] by the time season two airs. In the meantime, I'll be writing lots of music, and trying to take care of my body!
