Looking for a romantic and affordable gift option this Valentine's Day? Check out one of these two Valentine's Day-inspired DIY spa treatments!
Woman geting massage from man

We consulted Dawn Ferraro, Spa Director at The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, for DIY tips for the spa's "Sweetheart Sugar Scrub" and "Sweetheart Massage," and we're spilling all the relaxing secrets!

Sweetheart Valentine Massage

Since you're not at the spa, make your own Sweetheart lotion at home with these tips:
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon orange or lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon orange or lemon juice.
Blend all ingredients together. Moisten skin and apply scrub in a circular motion. Rinse.

What is it? Remember those Sweetheart candies you used to eat around Valentine's Day as a kid? Well, this luxurious massage is much more fun than devouring those! A combination of fine oils and vitamin E will leave skin soothed and naturally conditioned. Ask your man to pamper you this Valentine's Day with this luxurious massage, or give him one!

What you'll need:

  • 2 bath towels, 3 hand towels and 3 washcloths
  • Shower cap
  • Sweetheart massage oil or lotion, 2 - 4 ounces

Directions:

  1. Prepare the area by placing two hand towels on the table for the breast area and lower body area or one large bath towel for men. Have all products ready for use. Check the temperature of the room. Be sure to always keep the room at a comfortable temperature for the guest. Suggested 80 - 84 degrees F.
  2. Have your honey lie face down and cover the lower portion of the body with a bath towel for comfort.
  3. Begin the massage with the shoulders and upper back. Take the massage oil (or lotion) in your hands and do three long and even pressured strokes; then massage in a circular motion.
  4. Continue with massage using long effleurage strokes. Time 25 minutes on each side.
  5. Complete the back side and have your honey turn face up. For privacy, use a new warm towel.
  6. Repeat steps above.
  7. Grab a robe for your honey and wrap it around the shoulders.
  8. Remove any excess massage oil from the bottom of feet.

Sweetheart Sugar Scrub

What is it? This exclusive Sweetheart Sugar Meringue naturally exfoliates the skin while aloe vera and pro vitamin B-5 promote hydration and moisture retention to keep the body feeling soft and supple. A sweet treat that will reveal healthy, vibrant skin.

What you'll need:

  • 2 bath towels, 3 hand towels and 3 washcloths
  • Loofah, sponge or nylon glove
  • Shower cap
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Sweetheart sugar meringue, 2 - 4 ounces
  • Sweetheart lotion

Directions:

  3. Give your honey a washcloth to cover his or her face.
  4. Begin the service with the legs. Take the scrub in your hands and do three long and even pressured strokes; then massage in a circular motion.
  5. Make sure you spend extra time on the feet, hands, elbows and knees.
  6. Timetable: Do 25 minutes on the back side, 20 minutes on the front side.
  7. Note: Don't scrub in one area too long, as this can cause irritation.
  8. Complete the back side and have your honey turn to face up. Use a new warm towel.
  9. Turn on your shower and help your honey into a seated position. Take him or her to the shower to wash off.
  10. After your honey has showered and dried off, have him or her lie face down again and place a warm dry bath towel over the body for warmth.
  11. Apply the body lotion with a strong, even stroke. This is an application, not a massage. Apply lotion to both sides of the body.
  12. Use a warm towel to wipe your honey's soles and help him or her into a seated position.
  13. Grab a robe for your honey and wrap it around the shoulders.
