Glow Like A
Deep Sea Pearl
So, who's the real star of Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? The mermaids, of course! They glow, they shimmer, they have no feet...well we've got some tips from DuWop to give you that ethereal undersea beauty.
How to get the glow
Mermaids have always captured the imagination, from The Little Mermaid's Ariel to Darryl Hannah in Splash to the dangerous fish ladies from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. DuWop had a few tips for us to get the look, straight from the film. Here's what they had to say:
"To capture the mermaids' romantic appeal, makeup artists used Doubleglow7, (as seen on Gemma Ward, Jorgelina Airaldi) a luminous face balm featuring Illuminating Pearls for instant radiance. Cheeks get the lightest flush of apricot color thanks to Blushbooster in Mango (as seen on Sanya Hughes). Shooting in and out of water, all of the mermaids kept their eyeliner from smudging and their lipstick from feathering with Reverse Eyeliner and Reverse Lipliner (as seen on Gemma Ward, Antoinette Nikprelaj and Daphne Joy)."
Sea-kissed skin tones
For darker skin tones, I've used Too Faced's Sun Bunny Bronzer or Beach Bunny Bronzer on cheekbones and a bit of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics' loose shimmer in Clove, mixed into a body lotion to make the legs and arms glow as well. Mermaids may not have legs, but that doesn't mean you can't give you limbs a sexy edge.
Shimmer here, shimmer there
Another fun tip...mix any shimmer shadow (sparingly...we don't want you to look like a disco ball) into your foundation for a luminious glow. You can even mix a little (as long as it's super fine) into clear lip gloss. For the hair, I love to mix a bit of shimmer into some conditioner and smooth it through the tresses before braiding it. Great for the beach. The conditioner protects your hair from the salt and sand, and the shimmer makes you look like you just emerged from the depths of the ocean. Yo ho ho!
