Fits Your Face?

The best hairstyle is one that complements your face shape, but did you know that there are some hairstyles that suit anyone and everyone?

Hairstyles for every face

Angled, medium-length hair

Dana Fiore, master stylist at Louis Licari Salon in NYC, encourages clients to get a haircut based on their specific face shape, but says that some hairstyles do work for everyone. "Medium-length hair with appropriate face-framing angles can suit almost every face shape," says Fiore.

Long, loose bangs

Creative Director Alan Gold of The Haig Co. & Salon agrees. "Classic symmetrical hairstyles with long, loose layered bangs grazing the bridge of the nose gives great flexibility to a style and are flattering for almost all face shapes." This one-size-fits-all hairstyle is versatile, too -- it can be worn on or off of the face. "This flexibility gives the option to create shape for all face types," adds Gold. "Just grazing the shoulders leaves many flattering options."

Curls

Toni Love, an Atlanta-based hair-loss specialist loves curls. "Curly hair never goes out of style and works with all face types," says Love. Curls camouflage flaws such as a wide forehead or a long face. They can be pulled up or back to narrow a wide face, and they add volume to flat, fine hair. "Curls are timeless."

Layers, layers and more layers

Layers are the key, says Natasha Sunshine of the Byu-ti Salon in LA, and the more the better. "Scarlett Johansson's textured bob is a great example of a haircut that many face shapes can wear well."

Your hair is an accessory of who you are, no matter what your face shape, says Ratay. Once you've chosen the right lines of design, follow with the perfect hair color for your unique skin tone, eye color and personality!

Go for it!

Stylist Heather Allen of Beyond Beauty Salon recognizes the different needs of various face shapes but cautions clients not to get "stuck" because of it. "Allow your stylist to explain options for you," says Allen. "Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. When it comes to hairstyles, you're never 'stuck'!"
