As fun and fabulous as prom is, getting ready for the biggest night of the year can be stressful. We don’t want you to end up missing out on any enjoyment due to feeling overwhelmed with pre-prom do-dos so we’ve put together some tips to help you stay calm. Getting ready for a night out is half the fun, and this isn’t just any night out, so follow our guide to an anxiety-free evening.
Fit in some fitness
We know you have what feels like a million things to do the day of the big event, but fitting in some physical activity can help minimize any pre-prom stress you're feeling. Hit the gym, go for a jog or even just grab your iPod and go for a long walk to get some fresh air and work off any nervous energy you may be dealing with. You may think you don't have time to sweat it out, but you'll be thankful you did. Not only will you feel calmer, just knowing you burned some calories will help you feel sexier in your dress.
Eat for energy and mood
It's hard enough to eat healthy on a regular day, let alone the day before a big event. There's primping to be done, friends to consult and makeup to be applied, but if you skip meals today, you'll have no energy left for dancing the night away later. On the flipside, if you end up grabbing a greasy cheeseburger just to fill the hunger gap, you'll end up feeling sluggish and the sodium will bloat you -- not an ideal look for prom. Snack on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and raw nuts throughout the day to keep energy up and ensure you don't get too hungry.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water throughout the day will help you flush any toxins out of your system (banishing any potential bloat) and your skin will look more supple if you stay hydrated. Keep a bottle of water with you all day and keep sipping. Remembering to drink water will also help keep your energy level up.
Pamper yourself
In between all the prom-day prep, make time to really relax and pamper yourself. Even if you've got salon appointments booked for a mani-pedi, hair styling or makeup application, do some DIY pampering at home to really get you in the mood for a great night. Soak in a hot bath, listen to relaxing music, light some aromatherapy candles and give yourself an all-over glow with an exfoliating scrub.
Most people only go to one prom, so don't get so bogged down in the details that you forget to have a good time. When it all comes down to it, prom night is about bonding with your BFFs, letting loose on the dance floor and strutting your stuff in an amazing dress. So before you get stressed out about smudged polish or a few strands of hair out of place, remember you're there to have fun!
