Pamper Your Face
Facial masks are a pampering, beneficial way to draw out impurities, exfoliate, hydrate, soothe or tone your face. According to Helen McGuinness, beauty therapist and author of the book, "Facials & Skincare in Essence," there are six basic types of face masks: clay, peel-off, thermal, cream, warm-oil, and natural. Whether you have oily, dry, or mature skin, there’s an appropriate face mask for you.
Clay masks contain natural clay substances that deep cleanse by drawing impurities to the skin's surface as it dries and tightens. Clay masks are ideal for people with normal to oily skin who would like to absorb excess oil without stripping their skin. Product recommendation: Nu Skin's Clay Pack – This mask helps unclog pores and free impurities with clay, aloe vera, and infused cleansing agents.
Peel-off masks come in gel, plastic, or paraffin wax subtypes, but they're not as absorbent as clay masks. Peel-off masks tighten the skin temporarily and some stimulate the blood supply. They are good for mature and dry skin. Product recommendation: Jafra Cooling Hydration Mask – Firm skin with this excellent mask formulated with botanical extracts.
Thermal masks are applied to the face and gradually heat up. They warm surface tissues and encourage the skin to breathe. Product recommendation: Boots No7 Purifying Sauna Mask – This mask heats up on contact with water to open pores and leave your skin feeling refreshed.
Cream masks contain emollient properties that soften skin. They are ideal for people with normal to dry skin who want to rejuvenate their facial skin by adding moisture. Product recommendation: Estée Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Mask – Revitalize and moisturize dry to very dry facial skin with this intensive mask treatment.
Warm-oil masks are usually applied in spas and contain almond oil, olive oil, or vitamin oil. They are excellent for dry or mature skin because they soften the skin and increase blood circulation to the face.
Natural masks are based on the rejuvenating properties of fruits, plants, and herbs, such as cucumber, papaya, and oatmeal. Product recommendation: Korres Thyme Honey Mask – This mask moisturizes and revitalizes normal to dry skin with natural thyme honey.
