Secure with a hair tie. Divide the ponytail into three parts and braid to the tip. Secure the end with another hair tie.

I love the idea of the braided base, thanks for that! I feel like a french braid is super classy and can make any hairstyle look great! I may even try the popular-by-pinterest look of the braid on the back of your head leading to a bun.
