Praise the ponytail, our favorite shortcut for those hot summer days when you wouldn't dream of turning on a hair dryer. But it doesn't have to look like an afterthought. If you have just an extra minute, you can transform your ponytail from blah to beautiful with these easy, stylish ideas.

Paris HiltonAdd a headband

Take a cue from Paris Hilton and wear a headband with a low ponytail. Use the headband to keep bangs out of your face or let them come forward. Either way, you'll want some hair peeking out from the front of the headband. Look for embellished and metallic styles with one or two straps, with a bit of elastic for a snug fit. Remember to position the ponytail low; otherwise, the look comes off as too youthful.

I love the idea of the braided base, thanks for that! I feel like a french braid is super classy and can make any hairstyle look great! I may even try the popular-by-pinterest look of the braid on the back of your head leading to a bun.
