Green your makeup bag

It can be hard to find pure and healthy substitutes to our favorite beauty products. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. The green queens at Better Organic Choice (BOC) recently rummaged through the makeup bags of the SheKnows crew in search of toxic products. What did they find? And what do they recommend? Read on!

Kiss My Face Sheer Organic ShinesFavorite: Latisse, for growing lashes

BOC Feedback: For a look at the potentially toxic ingredients in this product, simply read the fine print.

Suggestion: A more natural choice would be a non-prostaglandin, peptide-based formula like Tarte MultiplEye Natural Lash Enhancer. But we would recommend going without a lash enhancer altogether. Go for a primer that nourishes lashes, like Jane Iredale PureLash Extender and Conditioner, with panthenol (vitamin B5) and Omega-9 fatty acid to encourage lash growth while building up your lashes before you apply mascara.

Favorite: Stila tinted moisturizer SPF 15

BOC Feedback: This product contains parabens.

Suggestion: Instead try Josie Maran Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30 and organic Argan oil.

Favorite: Aveda lipshine

BOC Feedback: Great choice. This gloss is BOC-approved!

Suggestion: If you're looking for a similar product, try Kiss My Face Sheer Organic Shines (91% organic) with beeswax and shea butter.

Next: Maybelline mascara?
