It's an Emmy- and Golden Globe award-winning television drama about to close its third season -- and now it's a fashion phenomenon. Mad Men, the critically acclaimed television drama about an ad agency in the 1960s, has spawned fashion fever.
Top American designer Michael Kors launched an entire Fall collection last year inspired by the decade and now '60s inspired items are flying off the shelves at Macy's, Bloomingdales and Banana Republic. Even Oprah kicked off her 2009 season with a show dedicated to Mad Men, where the audience dressed up in their '60s best.
Mad Men is about Sterling Cooper, a fictional advertising agency with heavy hitter and suave ad man Don Draper, portrayed by Jon Hamm. The show also features young copy writers, account executives and busy assistants. Think gloves, ladylike dresses, polished oxfords, fedoras – everything you don't see much in today's fashion repertoire. Well, until Mad Men brought it all back.
