Of course, that means outerwear will shortly be a consideration anew.
What are we looking for in our coats and jackets this season? "Feminine details like ruffles, pleating, flare bottoms and rouching on both wools and downs are hot for fall. Belted coats are still popular and details like exposed zippers and toggle closures are other options. Plaid wools and faux furs will be out there also," says Laura McDowell, Style Expert for T.J. Maxx/Marshalls.
McDowell also says to look for lots of bomber jackets. They were all over the Fall '09 runways, and dressy or casual, this updated classic has maintained its edge and can work with almost any fundamental favorite in your closet.
The leather jacket has come a long way since the days of jeans and boots... in fact, that's kind of veering toward overkill. A great option is teaming a leather bomber with the must-have feminine ruffled tunic and dark skinny jeans for a night out with the girls. Also, accenting with patent peep-toe heels will add height and flair to your look.
By day, pairing the bomber with a pencil skirt, belted knit cardigan and embellished top is a great way to update a tired office ensemble and segue easily to happy hour.
Of course, the bomber jacket is not the end of the scene for outerwear this season.
"Egg-shaped cocoon coats look new, with full volume that gets narrower toward the knees. There are also lots of blanket inspirations, with banded edges, brushed woolen surfaces and flat quilted effects," says Sharon Graubard, Senior Vice President of Trend Analysis for Stylesight.
This season is one of fusing the old with the new. I've noticed a lot of trench-like and cape-oriented coats, and I think it looks very '40s-inspired! The retro coats had very cinched waists and rounded shoulders, but in the current lines, they are very modern with bold colors that will add spark into the drabbest of chilly days!
