Summer skin savers

To keep your skin healthy and looking its best this summer, you have to pick the right skin care products and cosmetics. Check out our must-have summer skin savers.

Banana Boat sunscreen

Hundreds of sunscreens are on the market, so choosing just the right one is difficult. If you're active, we recommend Banana Boat Sport Performance Dri-Blok Sunblock Lotion SPF 30. This water-resistant sunscreen is hard to sweat off. It's different from other sunscreens because it goes on like a lotion but dries to a powdery finish instead of the sticky mess you get from some other sunscreens. It's affordable, too -- about $9 for a 6-ounce bottle at most drugstores. For your face, try Banana Boat's Sun Wear Faces, with its anti-aging, oil-free SPF 30 formulation.

Softlips Lip Protectant

Protect your lips from sunburn, too. Softlips makes a line of very reasonably priced lip care products that glide on smoothly and protect your lips from the sun's harmful rays. Softlips Lip Protectant has an SPF of 20 and comes in fabulous flavors, such as strawberry.

Noxzema Original Deep Cleansing Cream

Remove dirt, oil, sweat and makeup from your skin with Noxzema. With eucalyptus, menthol and camphor, it conditions your skin as it cleans, leaving your face feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Noxzema also cools, soothes and remoisturizes your skin after a sunburn. A 14-ounce jar is priced at about $5 to $6 at most drug and grocery stores.

Coconut Body Butter

Tropical scents such as pineapple and coconut are fabulous choices for summertime, making you feel like you're at a tropical beach when you're just in your backyard. We love the Coconut Body Butter from The Body Shop. This intensive cream moisturizes and softens dry, tired skin with organic olive oil and shea butter. You also can use it on dehydrated hair. Just apply it liberally to damp hair, and wrap your head in a towel. Let it soak in for 30 minutes before shampooing out with a moisturizing shampoo. Get Coconut Body Butter at The Body Shop stores or online for $20 for 6.7 ounces.

Tinted moisturizer with SPF

In the summertime, skip heavy foundation and use a tinted moisturizer instead. These products offer enough color to even out your skintone while keeping your skin hydrated. You can find many tinted moisturizers with SPF such as Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20. It comes in seven shades. Another favorite is Clinique Moisture Sheer Tint. This oil-free tinted moisturizer contains SPF 15 and an antioxidant complex to protect your skin.
