7 Cover-Ups Under $50
At the beach or pool, don't cover up with a towel or t-shirt. Instead, wear a cute, comfortable beach cover-up when you get out of the water. Select cover-ups that can go from the sand to a beachside party.
This summer's swimsuit cover-ups are all about transition. "Versatile pieces that can be worn both to the beach and to a restaurant afterward are in high demand, perhaps because of the recession," says Ally Rhoads, buyer for Denver-based ahlivv.com and sales representative for Quiksilver/Raisins. Coupled with jewelry or a cute bag, many of these cover-ups can transition smoothly from day to night. "It's more the pool-to-the-lounge-type idea," she explains. What more could you ask for during the economic crisis? Rhoads notes seven pieces under $50 that she believes best represent the cover-up trends of this season, encompassing a variety of ages, styles, and body types:
Twisty cover-upThis cover-up by Raisins has been featured in the line for four seasons and continually retails well because of its bright, poppy colors like citruses and blues. Rhoads emphasizes these are not neon '80s colors, but simply brights. The twisty could be paired with a necklace and bracelets for a night on the town or a dinner after a day at the beach. Price: $44.
Shortie boardshortsThe shortie boardshorts are a little more print driven and could also be worn during a workout. "Those things are flying out the door," Rhoads says. Best of all, they are made of quick-drying material, great for hitting the beach or gym. Price: $32.
Santa Fe cover-upThe Santa Fe cover-up is made by Radio Fiji, a line that translates high-end items into affordable buys. This cover has a flowing look, with droopy pockets and a fashionable edge. "It's overall a more sophisticated piece," Rhoads adds. Price: $44.
Caribbean cover-upAlso by Radio Fiji, this tunic-style cover-up has an ethnic feel. Available in burnt sienna and twilight. Price: $42.
Beachy shortBeachy shorts are made from microfiber, a really soft, quick-dry fabric. Rhoads says she likes the length and the way they are specially designed for a woman's curves. Price: $42.
Sunny dressThe "Walking on Sunshine" dress by Leilani is a fresh cotton pique that is also an excellent transition piece when paired with cute summer jewelry. Rhoads says she is seeing a strong trend in neutrals and whites like this dress, which has an empire waist and crochet detailing that highlights the neckline. Price: $46.
SkirtiniThe skirtini is a popular choice for moms. Each nylon spandex skirt, like the ones made by Leilani Swimwear, match the swimsuit tops. Many women opt for this cover-up as a roll-on waist skirt or as a swimsuit cover that simply makes them feel more comfortable at the beach or by the pool. Price: $43.
