The rollercoaster that was your 20s is finally over
Perhaps the greatest thing about your 30s is that you won't go through nearly as many life changes as you did in your 20s. With graduation, moving out, getting your first job, getting your heart
broken and all the other turmoil, you can be happy and relieved to finally be in a place where so many changes don't happen in such a small period of time.
Societal expectations are crap
Throw away any preconceived notions you had about turning 30. Where you thought you'd be with marriage, kids and your career isn't exactly the norm anymore and there's no need to operate under that
kind of pressure. Life is tough enough as it is without feeling like there's a timeline in which everything just magically falls into place. Let the chips fall as they may and stop stressing about
when it should or shouldn't happen.
Old habits die hard
There's truth to every cliché, just like there is truth to this one. Realize that 30 years into your life, there's a pretty good chance that you're stuck in your ways on a lot of things. If
you're set on making changes, focus on making small ones first and don't be so hard on yourself. This is a moment to come to terms with who you are as a person and embrace it. The quicker you learn
to feel comfortable with yourself the happier you will be.
It's O.K. to still feel like a kid
Just because the world might see you as an official adult, doesn't mean you always feel like one. There are going to be plenty of moments in life where you'll still feel like a total kid. Whether
that means you just feel like being silly or are a little apprehensive or naive about something new, realize it's totally O.K. to feel that way. Enjoy this new decade in your life and don't worry
about how "adult" you're supposed to feel. There's no magic switch that goes off in your brain that makes you feel a totally different way your first day of 30.
It's just the beginning
Maybe you're ready to start a family or your career is finally headed in the right direction, take advantage and enjoy this period of your life that's got a lot less bumps and changes than your
20's did. This is just the beginning so it's time to sit back, relax and enjoy the adventures to come.
