Look And Feel Beautiful In The New Year

Here are eight fabulous that will make you look and feel beautiful in the new year.

Woman sleeping

Get enough sleep

Sleep invigorates your mind and body, so make sure you are getting 6-8 hours of restful sleep each night. Also try to take an afternoon nap. Believe it or not, this is even possible during the workweek. Instead of eating out, order a quick bite in your office. Close your door and put your head down for a 15-30 minute nap. But don't forget to set an alarm!

Quit smoking

Smoking not only causes lung cancer, emphysema, heart disease and a multitude of other health problems, it also yellows teeth and causes your skin to look dingy. It can also lead to wrinkles! In 2009, quit smoking for good. Join a support group, get hypnosis, try the patch. Do whatever you need to do put down cigarettes forever.

Start walking

Are you stuck in the office sitting at the computer all day? Taking a 30 minute brisk walk on your lunch hour or in the morning before work will make you feel refreshed. It will also help to reduce stress and is an easy way to get in some cardiovascular exercise - which is good for your heart and the rest of your body.

Woman drinking water

Drink enough water

The benefits of water are tremendous. It cleans your body from the inside out, helps you lose weight and makes your skin look clean and clear. Drink eight tall glasses of water each day. Keep bottled water at your desk at work, in your gym bag and in your car. If you make it convenient, you will drink it.

Go natural

Put the chemicals aside and go natural with your beauty routine in 2009. This doesn't mean you have to skip makeup altogether, instead shop for all-natural or organic skin care products and cosmetics. The ingredients in traditional makeup contain harmful chemicals, fragrances or dyes that can cause damage to your skin. Instead try natural mineral makeup, which won't clog your pores and will allow your skin to breathe. Organic skin care products use botanical ingredients derived from fruit and plant extracts, shea butter and essential oils. They cleanse and hydrate your skin, leaving it soft, healthy and beautiful.

Get out of your rut

Have you worn the same haircut for the last 5 years? Do you always wear black or navy to the office? It's time to get out of your beauty and fashion rut. Force yourself to make a change. Get a dramatically different haircut, dye your locks, eliminate black from your wardrobe, or start wearing high heels. Do something completely out of your regular routine. You will love have good it makes you feel.

Woman washing her face

Commit to skin care

Throughout the year, we tend to get lazy with our skin care routines. It's time to change all that and make a commitment to our skin. Whether you want to fight acne, even out your skin tone, smooth away fine lines or hydrate your dry skin, you have to be consistent with your regimen. Changing your products all the time, skipping steps or neglecting your skin causes inflammation, breakouts and wrinkles. Visit the dermatologist and find a skin care plan that is right for you. Then stick to it every single day. You will see dramatic results and you'll be thankful in the long run. Don't forget to wear SPF every day.

Learn to laugh

Laughter is good for your soul. Smiles and laughter will help you look good and feel good. Smiling makes everyone around you happier and more energetic. Embarrassed about your smile? Look into professional teeth whitening or braces, if neccessary. Men always say they are attracted to a woman by her smile.

great list, the 'commit to skin care' tip is especially important. from the live examples of my best friend's mum-a 40something lady who appears to be in her late 20s! small details really make differences, and I guess I can't be the lazy gal I used to be if I don't want to age too quickly

Taking care of ur skin is a very important thing to do. Simply because your skin needs to be healthy and clean and it need to breath. So in the winter put lotion on to make ur skin feel soft and not all dryed out because the winter can make your skin look and feel rough. So take good care of ur skin because skin is beauty.

As a Dermatologist, I love the "Commit to Skin Care" suggestion. I agree; a daily SPF is a must (try to go with SPF 30 or higher), but also look for antioxidants in your skin care. Sunscreen partially blocks or absorbs the aging UV rays before they hit the skin, but antioxidants go one step further and neutralize the destructive molecules in the skin--those that are generated by the UV rays that escape the sunscreen blockade. Coffeeberry, vitamin C and idebenone are all antioxidants found in good anti-aging skin care. For the most potent formulations look for physician-grade lines--I have a handful that I recommend to my patients: http://www.vandykelaser/skin_care_products.php.

Great list. I plan to follow them and advise my members as well. I would also emphasize the "Commit to Skin care" especially during the winter months when skin gets extremely dry. Thanks, Ron Robinson, Cosmetic Scientist, Founder www.beautystat Your network for healthy, beautiful skin.
