This spring, designers are using this (once thought of) signature girlie hue on clothing and accessories, making it modern, fun and sexy. "The hot shade of pink for spring/summer is fuchsia. This pink makes a strong statement, so leave your baby and bubblegum pinks at home. Make it really modern by mixing in some red," says fashion stylist/expert Allison Berlin (stylemadesimple.net).For those of you who are pink virgins, fuchsia may be too much for you right away. But that doesn't mean you can't embrace this fabulous color! Add it in small doses for day and throw caution to the wind at night. Allison suggests, "Tone down a bold color during the day with a pair of fuchsia peep-toe pumps paired with a classic sheath dress. Modernize your evening look with a bright fuchsia mini dress."This Muse Silk Trapeze Dress from Nordstrom (shown at right) and Jimmy Choo Patent Sandals from Saks.com (below right) are perfect items to update your spring wardrobe. Also, consider variations of this color during the upcoming season. There are much more subtle shades available, which are great for the woman that doesn't want to make a bold statement with color. Try something like Bergdorf Goodman's Doo.Ri Color-Block Halter Dress (shown above left) for a softer pink look.In addition to peep toe pumps and the classic sheath (not to mention the four zingy pink pumps below for high heel lovers) there are unlimited ways to don this hue. Pat Hambrick, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Bag Borrow or Steal (bagborroworsteal.com) shows us how to pink-up our closets, "It's easy to work in subtle pink accents with your everyday wardrobe. Cover up a light summer sundress with a soft pink cardigan, or slip on a pair of pink ballet flats.
You can even add a few pieces of pink jewelry, like this chic bangle from Coach (shown at right), as the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. "For an evening look, choose bolder shades of pinks," Pat says. "Carry a fashion forward pink bag, like the Goldenbleu 'Luella' Patent Leather Bag in fabulous fuchsia or, again, try shockingly pink jewelry."
Although pink is making a statement and gaining popularity, don't expect it to be the new black. Like black, it definitely has staying power and will have a home on the runway and in our closets for years to come, but it just isn't quite as versatile. Still, don't hesitate to add some pink key pieces to your closet. "The color pink is the ultimate color that depicts femininity. For that reason, it will always be timeless, like black," says Pat.
