Who worked the red carpet the best?

From SheKnows Australia
As Australia’s own "Emmys", the Logie Awards provided yet another opportunity for the stars of the small screen to go glam and walk the red carpet. But while Asher Keddie walked away with the Gold Logie, who topped the list in the fashion, hair and makeup stakes?

The makeup…

Celebrity hair and makeup artist Dale Dorning, who has attended to many starlets for Logies appearances over the years, says it's a myth that makeup needs to be "heavier" for red carpet appearances. "Your makeup needs to be balanced by using the right textures and finishes to look your best, and around 80 per cent of great makeup is getting the skin looking fit by using the correct foundation formulas," he says.

So who got it right on the red carpet at the 2013 Logie Awards in Dale's eyes?

Saskia Hampele

Saskia Hampele

"Saskia embodied perfect red carpet makeup. Her look was highlighted and sculpted in all the right places, and her simple hair with whimsy shows her features perfectly."

Rebecca Gibney

Rebecca Gibney

"Rebecca looked amazing! She looked super fit, radiant and absolutely owned the perfectly framed and dark, smokey eye. She's an aspirational beauty on the red carpet."

Kat Stewart

The Offspring actress was "a real winner" on the red carpet, he says. "Kat's look was simple and chic and tremendously age-appropriate."

Zoe Foster

"This ex-beauty editor knows all the tricks and used them all to deliver a beautifully executed makeup. Glowing skin and perfectly balanced."

The hair…

It's simple, really, says Tracey Hughes, creative director at Mieka Hairdressing: "Red carpet hair should embrace a synergy between the total look. Simple elegant hair, not overdone, will be more cohesive with the fashion garments." Her thoughts are echoed by Emiliano Vitale, creative director of é SALON, who believes that red carpet hair is all about "keeping it effortless and relaxed".

Working their locks to maximum effect at the 2013 Logie Awards were…

Jennifer Hawkins

Both Emilio and Tracey agree that Jennifer nailed it. "Once again, the former Miss Universe gets it right with a loosely pulled back messy high bun — simple but glamourous and once again, an ideal example of working with your dress to get the look right," Tracey explains. "She's another beautiful woman wearing the undone bun with style and confidence," Emilio adds.

Sonia Kruger

Tracey says Sonia, a red carpet regular, oozed "old Hollywood glamour": "Hair out, deep side parting, side swept tumbling over the shoulder… it was the perfect accessory to her Steven Khalil dress," Tracey says.

Michelle Bridges

Michelle Bridges

"Michelle Bridges' loose hairstyle was beautifully balanced to her face and body," Emilio says of The Biggest Loser’s star trainer. "I thought it was a really clever style for her overall look. It had a Hollywood hint to it, yet with a 'sporty' twist to it."

Rebecca Judd

Rebecca Judd

"Rebecca’s retro '60s high pony, with a modern messy touch, was the perfect accompaniment to her slightly futuristic gown," Tracey says.

Fashion, hair, makeup: The overall look…

Jessica McNamee

"For me, Jess was the overall best on the red carpet," Dale says.

"Her entire look was very on-trend, from the perfect tan, to the bold lip and minimal eye makeup, to the young Hollywood hair — her entire look allowed her natural beauty to shine through."

Tracey points to Shelley Craft as being a Logies red carpet standout, too. "From her white, very flattering gown, which hugged her curves beautifully, to her perfectly smokey eyes, to her tonged, simple mid-length and very on-trend bob — it was a stunning collaboration!" she says. Adds Emilio, "Her hair was also so perfect for her, extremely suitable for the red carpet evening and the ideal match for the dress. Not often does someone get it so right but she just looked amazing!"
