Makeup looks that can stand the heat

Look hot without melting away

From SheKnows Australia
There are so many great things about summer, but makeup sliding off your face isn’t one of them! We’ve taken a cue from our favourite "it" girls to bring you four tried-and-tested looks that will help you stay fresh and pretty as the temperature soars.
The Jessica Alba look

The Jessica Alba look

What is it:

She’s a stunner who lights up the screens, and this screen siren look suits Jessica Alba to a tee. With clear, dewy skin and a thin line on the upper lid, this look allows the main feature — those gorgeous red lips — to shine.

How to do it:

  1. After applying a primer, use your fingers to apply a light foundation to the areas of your face that need it most. Since this style is all about creating that "glow from within", it’s important not to mask your face with heavy foundation. In fact, if you’re confident enough, go with tinted moisturiser instead.
  2. Set the foundation by brushing on some mineral powder. Sweep on some bronzer on places where the sun would naturally hit your face, such as your forehead and upper cheeks.
  3. Curl your eyelashes using an eyelash curler before applying liquid eyeliner to the upper lash line. Flick up and out slightly when you reach the ends, but avoid going for a full "cat eye" effect. Also, try to keep the line quite thin — if you make a mistake or apply too much, just dip a cotton tip in makeup remover to fix it up.
  4. Now, it’s time to move on to what is possibly the easiest main feature of any makeup look to master — the red lips! Go for a lipstick rather than a gloss, as it will last longer, and avoid any matte finishes. The shade you choose depends on your skin tone, so try to get help from a professional in the store if you can.
  5. Voila — you’re done!

The Blake Lively look

The Blake Lively look

What is it:

Blake is the ultimate beach babe, so it’s no surprise that she has the low-key makeup look down pat. Combining shimmery yet no-fuss eyes, glowing skin and a slick of gloss, this look is the definition of summer beauty.

How to do it:

  1. Prep your skin with a hydrating primer or serum to create the perfect blank canvas.
  2. After around 15 minutes, once the primer has absorbed, apply a luminising foundation all over using your fingers. Use a concealer to cover up any blemishes such as under-eye circles or age spots.
  3. Lightly sweep a mineral powder over your face, concentrating on the areas that attract shine, such as the nose and T-zone. This step will help set your foundation and reduce the chance of oiliness later on in the day.
  4. For that summer glow, dust on a pink or coral blush on the apples of your cheeks.
  5. Time to do your eyes! Apply bronze eyeshadow across your lids and a touch of shimmery gold shadow on the inner corners of your eyes. Line the upper and lower lashes with a pencil or crayon eyeliner — but don’t go overboard! Remember, this look is all about enhancing your natural beauty, not masking it. Apply two or three coats of mascara to finish.
  6. With the lips, it’s best to keep them as simple as you can. Top off your look with a nude, clear or soft pink lip gloss.

The Lauren Conrad look

What is it:The Lauren Conrad look

Lauren Conrad’s makeup is always enviable, but this is one of the most beautiful styles she’s created. Lauren’s trademark winged eyeliner and the pop of colour on her lips make this look an absolute winner.

How to do it:

  1. Start off by applying a luminising foundation before using a concealer on any areas you don’t want to draw attention to. Lightly brush on a setting powder to perfect your base.
  2. To create that Californian bronzed goddess glow, dot on a luminising highlighter on the arches of your eyebrows, down your nose and on the tops of your cheeks.
  3. If you still need a little more warmth, sweep some bronzer across your forehead and cheeks. Remember, bronzer should only go on certain areas, not your whole face.
  4. Using a black liquid eyeliner, gently drag the brush across your upper lashline. Start from the inner corner of your eye and work your way towards the outer corner. Gently flick up when you reach the end to create that winged eye that Lauren is famous for.
  5. Give the liner some time to dry — try not to blink! — and apply two to three coats of volumising black mascara on your upper lashes and another one or two on the bottom lashes.
  6. Finish off your look with a slick of creamy, shiny (not matte) lipstick — the brighter the colour, the better! You can’t go wrong with hot pink or coral.
