We have to hand it to Lea Michele: The actress — who lost boyfriend Cory Monteith less than two months ago — is pushing through to film the new season of the hit FOX show Glee.
Michele was spotted filming scenes for the new season in New York City this week, wearing a bold fuchsia Moriah trench coat by Ted Baker London. The jacket is the quintessential look for a crisp fall day, but we're more excited to see Michele smiling during such a tough time.
We have to wonder if the scenes are part of showing how Michele's character, Rachel Berry, deals with the death of Monteith's character, Finn Hudson. Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that they will deal with Monteith's death in a tribute episode, though Finn won't die of a drug overdose.
"There were a lot of things that we had to decide — how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered," Ryan told Deadline.com in August. "But we have decided that we're not going to have him pass from that. Basically, what we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died."
Michele has been incredibly brave throughout this trying time. There was a time when producers weren't sure if the show would return for a fifth season, but she insisted on it.
"She was very adamant that she thought it was best for the cast and crew to get back together sooner [rather] than later so that mortgages could be paid and people could take care of their families," Murphy told TVLine in July. "Cory was so beloved that she felt people really needed to be together in this time. So we sort of followed her lead."
Michele is keeping her beloved boyfriend close to her heart, both on the show and off: She posted a photo of her "Finn" necklace on Instagram in August — and she's also been spotted off-set wearing a similar "Cory" necklace.
"He was very special to me, and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart," she told the crowd at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. "So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and became a part of all of our hearts — and that's where he'll stay forever."
Glee is set to return on Sept. 26 with a two-part Beatles episode, followed by the Monteith tribute.
