We're bummed that summer is over, but we're over it. Why? New York Fashion Week is set to kick off early Thursday morning!
Fashion watchers are expecting to see a wide variety of styles on the runway, including "neo nerd" — think shorts over leggings and jackets made out of "techno materials." Also expected? Lots of camouflage, jewel-toned colors and exaggerated silhouettes.
Tribal prints are also expected to make up several big-name collections, like those of Rebecca Minkoff and Christian Siriano.
"I was inspired by Latin America, so it's going to be filled with color, texture and pattern," Minkoff told Glam.com of her inspiration.
"My Spring 2014 collection is primarily inspired by a recent trip to Mexico's Isla Mujeres: the 'Island of Women,'" Siriano told StyleCaster. "I took influence from the shapes and imagery of grass-lined huts, picturesque color-blocked residential streets, stonework, and the locally abundant dahlia."
The Project Runway winner added that his designs will include "day separates in vibrant floral prints paired with raffia textiles, and soft elegant organzas for evening in sand tones. The collection — like the island — is dramatic, powerful, bright, romantic, and light."
We can't wait to check it out, especially since this might be one of the last seasons NYFW will happen at Lincoln Center. More and more designers, including Anna Sui and Vera Wang, are voicing concerns about the location of the shows.
"I feel like we are in someone else's territory," Sui told The New York Times. "Every season I think about moving, but frankly, economically, the tents make sense."
Wang added, "The next show comes in and they're hauling you away like a wedding caterer."
Even Fern Mallis, the woman credited with creating the hoopla around Fashion Week, thinks the shows are getting to be unmanageable.
"Fashion Week needs to be rethought," she told the Times.
The good thing about the shows? You don't have to be in the front row to get a glimpse of the action. All of the shows will be available on the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week channel on YouTube. The channel will also feature runway look how-tos and style playlists during the biggest week in fashion.
