Easy updos, just in time for wedding season

Have a zillion weddings to attend this spring? Save money on getting your hair done with these gorgeous styles that you can do on your own!

So many women are discouraged when it comes to styling their hair for a special occasion. Believe it or not, there are many fabulous hairstyles that you can do on your own, without even using a curling iron. Here are some of the year's hottest updos that are not only easy but are absolutely stunning!

The halo braid

DIY Wedding hair style - halo braid

The halo braid is a gorgeous style that can be worn anywhere from a music festival to a red carpet event (most recently rocked by Taylor Swift at the 2013 Grammys). The great part about this style is that it actually looks better when it is slightly messy, so there is less stress to make it perfect. Although it looks complicated, it is easy to do on your own, and can be done in less than 10 minutes!

  • Comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray
  • Small hair rubber bands

  1. Braid a small section of the front of the hair all the way down.
  2. Separate the back of the hair into two sections, and braid into pigtails, securing each with subtle hair rubber bands.
  3. Bring both pigtail braids upward, and secure them to the head using bobby pins.
  4. Cross braids over one another at the top of the head, pinning, tucking and hiding the ends of the braid.
  5. Bring the front braid around the back of the head, securing with bobby pins and tucking and pinning the end of the braid under the other braids.
  6. Finish off your look with hairspray to help keep it in place.

The chic sock bun

DIY Wedding hair style - chic sock bun

The sock bun has been making waves since last year. Not only is it a way to make beautiful curls, but it is also a fabulous way to cheat in creating the perfect bun.

  • Comb
  • Sock with toe cut off, rolled into a sock bun
  • 2 hair ties
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray

  1. Separate the hair, using a deep side part.
  2. Lightly tease both sections of the hair.
  3. Smooth over teasing, and bring back into a low side ponytail, securing with a hair tie.
  4. Pull sock bun over ponytail and press against head.
  5. Pull hair around sock bun, and secure over it with a second hair tie.
  6. Pin excess hair around the bun, covering the hair tie, and secure with bobby pins.
  7. Finish off your look with hairspray to help keep it in place.

The all-around twist

DIY Wedding hair style - all around twist

This is perhaps one of my favorite evening looks, and happens to be one of the easiest. Twisting hair is under rated and often thought to be more complicated to do than it is. Follow these easy steps to a gorgeous twist of your own!

  • Comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Small rubber hair band
  • Hairspray

  1. Separate the hair, using a deep side part.
  2. Starting with the lower side of the part, begin tightly twisting hair, adding a small section of hair with each twist as you go around to the back of the head.
  3. Once you reach the nape of the neck, secure the twist with a small rubber hair band.
  4. Begin tightly twisting the other side of the part, again, adding small sections of hair as you go around to the back of the neck.
  5. Continue twisting hair after you pass the nape of the neck.
  6. Twist both sections around one another, creating a bun and securing with bobby pins.
  7. Secure twists down the side of the head with bobby pins and hairspray as needed.
  8. Finish off your look with hairspray to help keep it in place.
