Tone It Down
It often feels nearly impossible to interpret the runway fashion trends we love so much and actually wear them in the real world. Would you wear tartan? Feathers? We can't even fathom horizontal stripes. But beauty trends are a different story. Those can be adapted if we take the time to interpret them for our own unique features.
We all get sick of waxing our brows from time to time -- plus, it hurts! We saw thick brows everywhere on the runway this season, but none of us are confident enough to rock the trend into the Groucho Marx category. Try to adapt the trend by filling in your brows with short strokes using a brow powder or pencil in a shade lighter than your brow color. If you're not too great with pencils, brow powders are a little more forgiving to work with. Then, set brows with a little clear styling gel, brushing the hairs upward for a slightly wild look.
You might want to thank Mad Men for bringing the bright, bold lip to the forefront of fashion. First it was red, and now, this season an orange-red hue has taken center stage. Do some sampling and find the right shade for your skin tone. If it feels like too much for you, consider using a sheer gloss instead.
This look is hot and it takes the smoky eye up a notch into glittery sparkle territory. Try it by sweeping a single sheer layer of metallic eye shadow over your lids, and smudge any excess on the brush subtly along your lower lash line. Apply a thin line of eyeliner in a matching, slightly darker color along your upper lash line and then smudge it just a little with a cotton swab. Apply two coats of mascara to your top lashes and a little to the bottom lashes, and there you go -- smoky metallics for every day.
