You work hard for your money, so we're about to save you some wasted bucks and break down the top products you need. Period, end of story.
Back to basics
Let's face it, most of us don't have the time to apply 10 different skin care products every day. Nor should we, according to Suki Kramer, founder of Suki Skin Care: "I am always in a rush, so my skin care routine has to be super simplified if I'm getting anywhere on time (or late, as usual). I think it's so silly anyway to use too many products in any regimen."
So how can we weed out those unnecessary products? It's not really that easy, says Tata Harper, founder of Tata Harper Skin Care.
"There isn't one product that no one needs in their skin care routine, because it really varies on skin type and skin maturity," she says. And when you think about it, that makes a lot of sense because 17-year-olds don't need an anti-aging eye cream just yet, and ladies in their 40s don't necessarily need an acne-fighting cleanser.
Keeping that in mind, there are certain types of products that everyone needs, Harper says. "There are products that each skin type and each age need. Everybody's skin is different, so the solutions to skin issues vary, which is why it's so fun and challenging to be part of the beauty business!"
Simplify your routine
Looking to cut out some of the fat from your skin care routine? Start by using only the essentials. For starters, no matter what your age, everyone needs a good cleanser. "A good cleanser is the basic beginning to any good anti-aging skin care routine and is truly the foundation for good skin," Harper says.
Next up? A targeted serum for your specific skin type. "Serums are formulated to target specific issues in the skin and deliver anti-aging benefits, and they are essential for daily long-term skin care for healthy, strong skin," Harper says.
So what should you look for when you're shopping for your perfect serum? A product that has "high-quality, low-molecular weight ingredients that can penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin where anti-aging activity is needed," she adds.
Another essential step on the road to glowing skin? Facial oil that protects your sensitive skin. "My skin is sensitive, tends toward combination behavior and is kept in shape, in balance and free from dryness as well as blemishing, with a great, skin nourishing, sebum-mimicking facial oil," Kramer says.
The right facial oil can provide protection against environmental aging and give you a dewy glow, Harper adds.
Last but not least, we can't forget exfoliation. If you're ever going to get glowing skin, you need to wipe away all the dead layers and gunk populating your pores. Kramer swears by this crucial step in her skin care routine: "My skin's texture is much improved, pores cleared, blemishes kept at bay and essential collagen renewed at a higher rate than my maturing skin can manage with a really great exfoliant."
To help get you started in your quest for perfect skin, we've picked a few products that will have you on the road to flawless skin in no time. Enjoy!
