It was elimination night on So You Think You Can Dance, and that came with a surprise for the bottom three.

SYTYCD says goodbyeNone of the couples were in the bottom last week, so it was a new experience for everyone. Somehow, Phillip and Jeanine managed to make it through, even though they were awful the night before. Of the girls, none really stood out,  so sending one home was as good as another. In this case, Ashley was sent packing. But as I predicted, it wasn't her partner Kupono who was sent home; it was ballroom dancer Max. That was the wrong call. Kupono is different, but I don't think he has the chops to keep up with the other guys in the competition. I'll miss Max.

Last night's guest dancer was Amrapali Ambegaokar, who represented India on Superstars of Dance. She really is amazing, and I can't imagine what kind of leg muscles you must have to do that barefoot tap rhythm that is so much a part of her traditional dance.

The CW aired one of my favorite episodes of Supernatural last night, so I caught that on the DVR to watch after SYTYCD. The episode is called Monster Movie, and it's an homage to the classic Universal Studios monster movies -- all done in black and white. They even emulated the old movie credit sequences. Just brilliant.

As for tonight, there isn't much new or exciting, so we'll jump to Sunday -- when you'll find a TV movie and something magical.

Sunday’s top picks:

Merlin

What Smallville is to the Superman legend, so is this short series about the early life of Merlin the Magician. When Merlin arrives in the kingdom, he quickly makes enemies -- including the heir to Uther's crown, the headstrong Prince Arthur.

Merlin lights up NBC this weekend

But guided by Uther's wise physician, Gaius, Merlin is soon using his talents not just to survive but also to unlock Camelot's mystical secrets. As he does so, he discovers that his destiny and that of the kingdom’s young leader-in-waiting, Arthur, are inextricably linked. Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Stewart Head stars in this UK-produced series.

Watch Merlin at 8:00 on NBC.

Killer Hair

Fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian stumbles on the story of a hair-raising murder in Washington, D.C. and gets knocked off her high-heeled stride when her ex-boyfriend turns out to be the detective on the case. Believing you are what you wear, and that everything you wear is a fashion clue, Lacey uses her style-savvy sense to get to the bottom of the series of murders at her best girlfriend's hair salon. Based on a novel by Ellen Byerrum. Starring Maggie Lawson, Finola Hughes, James McDaniel, Mario Cantone, Mark Consuelos, Mary McDonnell and Victor Webster.

Watch Killer Hair at 8:00 ET/9:00 PT on the Lifetime Movie Network.

Impact

The moon is on a collision course with Earth in this made-for-TV disaster movie event. David James Elliott (Close to Home, Jag) Natasha Henstridge (Eli Stone, Species), Steven Culp (Desperate Housewives, ER) and Oscar- and Emmy-nominated James Cromwell (W, L.A. Confidential, Babe) are among the stars of the international cast. Part one airs Sunday; part two airs Sunday, June 28.) Don’t miss our interview with Natasha later today!

Watch Impact at 9:00 on ABC.

News and notable

Ghost Hunters International returns to SCI FI Channel on July 8.

Andre Braugher will guest on the season opener of House.

On the heels of announcing T.R. Knight's departure from Grey's Anatomy, sources are saying that Katherine Heigl will be sticking around. The producers of the series, however, will not confirm, as that would, of course, lead to a plot spoiler for the new season.

Linda Hunt will be joining the cast of the new NCIS spinoff as the overseer of the LA Special Projects Office. Louise Lombard, who played the team leader in the backdoor pilot that aired on NCIS, has been let go.
