10. Bernese Mountain Dog

We can thank the Swiss for many great things: fine chocolate, luxury watches, and the Bernese Mountain Dog. This dog has become extremely popular throughout the years, recognizable because of its affectionate personality and keen intelligence. Regal-looking with its tri-colored, silky long fur, this is a true outdoors dog that, as its name might imply, fares well in cold weather. Ever patient and loyal, this dog would make a great addition to any family with children.

Mastiffs are the world's BEST breed. They are so loving & gentle but protective; and no one ever gave me trouble when I was traveling alone with Samson by my side. He was the best company a woman could have asked for & low energy indoors. And he never "mounted" anything! Outdoors he preferred to stay by my side to running off through the woods, & often positioned himself between me & whoever he viewed as a threat to me. I adopted him from the rescue league when he was just turning 8; we had the 4 best years of my life together before he died @ 12 yrs old, which is ancient for a giant breed. I still miss him & will never forget him. Thank you Samson!!

I had the honor of meeting Gibson when I was in Grass Valley visiting a friend a few years ago. I've had the picture that was taken on our refrigerator ever since. It has received MANY comments from dog lovers and cat lovers ever since. I love reading about all breeds of dogs. Keep them coming. Thanks!
