It was a night for harsh realities when the dancers took the stage for the second time in the competition. Instead of improving, most were told they were simply "good" but not performing up to the expected standard. And how hard is it for a dancer to hear the judges bow down and praise her partner but not her. It seems like Twitch, Will and Joshua's partners are all getting by on the abilities of half the team. How long can that last?
The recap:
Chelsea Traille and Thayne Jasperson opened the show with a Mandy Moore jazz number that should have been better than it was. Quirky costumes set the tone for a king and his lady love but the power struggle we saw in the famous "boardroom" dance just wasn't here. Chelesa may stay but Thayne is on his way out. Also on my "to go" list is Susie Garcia and Marquis Cunningham. I don't feel Susie belongs in the competition. Look at how she reacted when she was called a "street dancer" by the choreographer. She just doesn't have the strength and passion for this. The Salsa should have been insane, given that it's her dance but it just wasn't there. Bottom of the list for me.
More grumbling goes to Comfort Fedoke and Chris Jarosz, what a mismatched pair. They were supposed to be Krumping but it looked more like a quirky jazz routine. She's so much better than him, but I'm not overly fond of either one.
The couple who is growing on me is Courtney Galiano and Gev Manoukian. They're very well suited to each other and their contemporary dance was quite lovely.
Also middle of the road for me was Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura with their Argentine Tango. Nigel said it wasn't sleazy enough but it held my attention. Not the best of the evening and not the worst.
On my happy list is Jessica King and Will Wingfield mostly for him. He should end up in the finales, really an amazing mover. She did her best to keep up but he's out of her league even in a Hip Hop routine.
Kourtni Lind and Matt Dorame made me smile with their old Hollywood Foxtrot. The Foxtrot is one of my favorite dances and they did a very nice job.
Kherington Payne and Twitch Boss had to handle a tough smack from Mia Michaels about smiling throughout the routine, but they were so lovely. It was a special Viennese Waltz dedicated to the choreographer's daughter who is severely disabled. It was a gorgeous piece and I cried.
Finally, we had Katee Shean and Joshua Allen doing a Broadway routine to "All For the Best" from "Godspell." I was annoyed by the cut of the tune that was done to mix the rhythms up, but that's just because I know the song so well. The dance itself was fun and lively and full of little tricks and direction changes. Great stuff. Still, I like Joshua more than I like Katee and I think at some point she'll be going home before him.
Now it's time for the results show. My prediction is Chelsea, Thayne, Susie, Marquis, and Comfort and Chris in the bottom three. Watch tonight at 9:00 on Fox and see how it all comes out.
