Fans of traditional royal icing will rejoice with Betty Crocker’s introduction of its Decorating Cookie Icing, the very first royal icing that is completely ready-to-use straight from the decorating aisle. Whether you are decorating treats for an upcoming birthday or just a fun indulgence to enjoy at home, Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing is perfect as a base for other decorations or to simply add a layer of vivid color to homemade treats.

Not surprisingly, cookies are America’s favorite dessert to make at home!  In a recent survey, 82% of respondents said that they have baked cookies in the past year. Only 30% of those who bake desserts decorate cookies, but colorful and imaginative cookies are becoming more and more popular at bakeries across the country.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing takes working with royal icing from a challenge to a breeze. Royal icing, which creates a smooth, hard and matte-like surface, is the best way to guarantee that decorative icing survives any trip in tact when sharing baked goodies. However, it can be tricky for everyday bakers to master when making it from scratch since it often hardens quickly when exposed to air and can be difficult to achieve the right consistency.

This new, breakthrough offering stays fresh and soft in an easy-to-use pouch. With no additional preparation or mixing required, there are absolutely no dishes to clean!  The icing begins to set within four minutes and is completely hardened within four hours.

Available in red, green, blue and white, Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing arrives at national retail superstores and grocery stores in February 2008 with a national suggested retail price of just $2.99.

"When bringing cookies with you to a special event, the stacking element is key – you can decorate with this Cookie Icing and not have any issues with stacking the cookies in a gift tin or storing on a platter," says Mindy Beegle, senior brand manager, Betty Crocker Decorating at Signature Brands. "Since the Cookie Icing is so simple to use, it’s easy to get the entire family involved in decorating together."

How long can the cookie icing be kept on shelf after opening?

By Jane Doe Feb 4, 2009

I used this cookie icing for Christmas sugar cookies and was impressed. It went on smoothly and set very fast. It was very easy to work with and a thin layer was all that was necessary for taste. I originally purchased it at Cub Foods but now cannot find it anywhere.

I think the idea to package royal icing is brilliant. Icing cookies will be fun because I won't have to sweat trying to get the consistency of the royal icing just right and it can be tricky. Thank you for making this product, which I look forward to trying. Please send coupons or a link to coupons for the royal icing, as I would like to try it out.
